Literary Studies
Candidates for the final exam of the module English in Schools are to provide their examiners with a reading list of ten titles. This list should include at least one Shakespearean drama and one additional modern drama (20th/21st century), four poems (one per century: 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th), as well as three novels covering the timespan from the 18th century to the present. The reading list can include at most one film or other non-literary work of art.
Linguistics
Candidates for the final exam of the module English in Schools are to provide their examiners with a reading list that includes one introductory text for linguistics (e.g. Kortmann 2020 or Mair 2022) and one further introductory text for modern English (e.g. Leisi/Mair 1998, Das heutige Englisch or Crystal 2003, English as a Global Language). The latter text may also be replaced by a selection of chapters (totalling the length of a monograph) from Crystal 2018, Cambridge Encyclopedia of the English Language and/or König/Gast 2014, Understanding English-German Contrasts.
