Shakespearience
Annual Study Trip to Shakespeare's Hometown
The yearly Shakespearience study trip takes participants to Stratford-upon-Avon – home of the bard! – and London. The trip includes a course at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, interaction with people who work at the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) and four theatre performances (some in Stratford, some at the Globe in London). Participants have plenty of time to explore London and Stratford on their own, not only visiting the Bard's birthplace but also following in his footsteps at Anne Hathaway's cottage or walking along the Thames. Each excursion also includes additional opportunites for exploration, depending on the exact schedule; previous iterations have included trips to Oxford, to Windsor Castle, and to Roman ruins.
A combined Proseminar / Haupt-/Masterseminar is usually offered as part of the regular teaching program for those who wish to study the texts in detail. Participation in the seminar is not compulsory for the trip. Students registered for the study trip are guaranteed a place in the seminar if they apply during the regular registration periods. Please note that, as part of that seminar, a compact session (two mornings) will precede the study trip where we will read and discuss the plays. Attendance at these reading sessions is highly recommended for all participants of the trip.
