Eva Rüskamp is a doctoral candidate at the Chair of American Studies and conducts research in the interdisciplinary field of Environmental Humanities and Cultural Studies. Her doctoral thesis "Caught between Conservation and Transformation: Rural Spaces and their Communities in the Sustainable Transition" focuses on the impact of cultural factors on the governing choices made by rural communities with regard to their community and environmental development. While she focuses on basic research and theory building, she also works empiricially, using a mixed method approach to explore the case of Southern and Central Appalachia.
Besides working and teaching at the University of Freiburg, Eva Rüskamp represents the interests of Doctoral Candidates in the University Senate. With her colleague Léna Remy-Kovach, she also founded a group for doctoral students who work on the Anglophone World at the English Department (EnglishDocSFR).

EDUCATION
Eva Rüskamp holds a M.A. degree in American Studies from Humboldt-University Berlin. She has studied English and American Studies, Sociology and History at the University of Freiburg, the University of Oregon and the University of Western Brittany. Most recently she spent a semester researching and teaching at the Department of Sociology at UT Knoxville.
