Prüfungsordnung – Literature and Theater
N.B.: This translation of the Prüfungsordnung is provided for informational purposes only and is non-binding. In case of ambiguities or discrepancies, the official German version has precedence.
1. Object of study
The ungraded certificate's objects of study are the theory and practice of theater, theatrical varieties and theatrical history, scenography and asthetic form as well as its place in society. The primary aim of the curriculum is to develop competences for successful teaching in the the Oberstufe seminar "Literature and Theater". Furthermore, the certificate should promote methodological competence in the application of theatrical pedagogy in all subject areas. Alongside the role of theater and drama in educational institutions, the program also considers the increasing application of theatrical methods in areas like museum studies and continuing education.
2. Admissions requirements
none; students are generally expected to be pursuing an M.Ed. with the goal of becoming teachers.
3. Structure
The certificate will be granted to students who have attained at least 30 ECTS points distributed throughout the following three modules.
ECTS points for all modules can be attained at the University of Freiburg, the PH (Pädagogische Hochschule), the MH (Musikhochschule), and other EUCOR universities. In consultation with the program coordinator, students may also receive credit for work in theatrical pedagogy and didactics at other educational institutions.

Alongside a foundational seminar and lecture, students will choose at least one concentration area in the Wahlpflichtbereich (WP). Students who choose to register for courses only offering 6 ECTS points must either complete additional requirements in another course at the Master's level or enroll in an additional seminar.
The designation of Prüfungsleistung applies to the normal status of a given course in its respective department – since the certificate is pass/fail, the grade is irrelevant. Students must nevertheless complete requirements equivalent to those of a Prüfungsleistung even if they are enrolled in a program other than that in which the seminar is offered.
