Location and venue
FREIBURG
Freiburg is one of the oldest and most famous German university towns, an all-year-through tourist highlight in the very Southwest corner of Germany, capital of the Black Forest, known for its very mild climate (“Germany’s Tuscany”), relaxed lifestyle and high quality of living, many outdoor cafés and restaurants, summer (music and wine) festivals, just 30 minutes away from both France (Alsace) and Switzerland (nearest city: Basel) and no more than 4 hours away from Italy.
The region is famous for its Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte, or Black Forest Cake, and visitors of Freiburg should also make sure to try a piece of cheesecake from Stefans Käsekuchen at the Münster Market.
The Münster Market is a daily farmer's market, one of the most beautiful in Germany, taking place right around to Freiburg's landmark, the beautiful cathedral ("Freiburger Münster") just off Freiburg's main shopping street.
Prices for food, drinks and grocery are moderate: A daily budget of 25-30 Euro will cover all your expenses (a meal at the students' refectory, for example, costs between 4,70 and 6,90 Euro).
